Originally developed as an air to air interceptor to replace the aging Hawker Hurricane, it instead excelled as a ground attack aircraft. Armed with 4 20mm cannons and with the option of also carrying 8 60 pound rockets, it was highly effective at taking out enemy armour. This particular plane features invasion stripes that were painted on allied planes so they could be easily identified by friendlies during the invasion of Normandy.
