Grumman F4F Wildcat

Grumman F4F Wildcat. Maximum speed: 331mph/533kph. Armament: 4x Machine Guns. The Wildcat was the main United States Navy fighter plane when America first entered the war. Before that, it saw service in the Royal Navy, claiming the first kill by a US-made plane in the European theater. After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and the US entered the war, it went up against the Japanese Zero, where it was outclassed in speed and maneuverability. Although newer and more advanced planes would dominate the Pacific skies in the later years of the war, the Wildcat made up the bulk of the fighter squadrons in some of the largest naval battles ever fought in history; most notably the battles of the Coral Sea and Midway.
