The Raiden or "Jack" as the allies called it was an interceptor of the Imperial Japanese Navy that saw action towards the end of the war. It was designed to intercept high flying bombers that were steadily creeping towards the Japanese home islands with it's high speed and powerful armament. Only a relatively small number were built and its late introduction meant that few saw combat. It was however, one of the last aircraft types to see action, with a group of J2Ms engaging and downing several US Navy Hellcats only two hours before the official surrender of Japan and the end of WW2.
