The Bf 109 or unofficially the Me 109 was one of the two main fighter aircraft of the Luftwaffe during World War 2. More aerial victories have been claimed per fighter pilot in this plane than any other plane of the entire war. This was due not only to the quality of the machine but also to various circumstances that meant its pilot was often presented with multiple targets. The plane managed to stay competitive throughout the war with constant upgrades to its systems, but in the later years it did start to lose out to more advanced designs.
